City of Llano Elections
General Elections for the City of Llano are held in May each year. Mayor and two Council Member seats are elected in odd years, and three Council Member seats are elected in even years. Texas Election laws limit the role of the City and the City Secretary’s Office to providing legal notices related to the Election and accepting and filing the candidate application with the applicable County Elections Administrator. Questions regarding election laws and procedures, including how to run for office, are to be directed to the Secretary of State at 512-463-5650 or you may visit their website at www.sos.state.tx.us/elections. Questions regarding financial and other reporting procedures and contributions or expenditures related to elections are to be directed to the Texas Ethics Commission at 512-463-5800 or you may visit their website at www.ethics.state.tx.us. The City of Llano follows the Texas Election Code laws for elections, with the specific qualifications for candidates as listed below.
The first day to file for a place on the ballot for May 6, 2023 General Election is January 18, 2023. The last day to file for a place on the ballot for May 6, 2023 General Election is February 17, 2023, at 5:00 pm.

Qualifications for City Council Candidates:
1) Must be a United States citizen;
2) Must be 18 years of age or older on the date of filing;
3) Must have not been determined by a final judgement of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:
a) totally mentally incapacitated; or
b) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
4) Must have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
5) Shall have resided continuously in the City of Llano not less than twelve (12) months immediately preceding election day;
6) Must be a registered voter of the City of Llano as of the filing deadline;
7) Must satisfy/meet any other requirements prescribed by law and the Texas Election Code.
Candidates may file an application for a place on the ballot for either the Mayor or Council Member place; applications from the same candidate cannot be filed for both the Mayor and Council Member places. If elected, each Council Member and the Mayor must continually reside within the city limits during their term of office, and any removal of their residence from the city limits during their term of office shall constitute a vacancy in their office, and such vacancy shall be filled as provided by the Local Government Code.
