Here’s a little Good Paving News in Llano. The tree trimming is nearly complete and most folks are happy with all the work performed to clear street areas. Titan Milling, the dirt contractors for Cox Paving, moved into Llano on June 13th and have started work. The plan is to work the city in quadrants. The order they will be working these areas are, NE, NW, SW, SE, using Bessemer on the North side of the river and Ford on the south side to separate the east and west areas. The contractors will soon be spraying, scraping and blading to remove grass in your area.

At this time, the attention will be directed to the streets that have new curbing with a granite gravel base and the few streets getting a rehabilitation process, grinding/milling existing pavement and adding materials needed to bring them back to a desired riding and drainage surface. As these streets are prepped or processed, they will be putting down the first coat of chip seal to seal and preserve the surface until all streets are ready for the rubber seal. With several crews working, this should move very quickly. This process has already started in the northeast quadrant with crews beginning to move to the northwest side. Streets that are not being reclaimed, will be patched and leveled up for an improved riding surface.

When all the streets are ready the rubberized chip seal crew will move in and add the rubber seal top to every street in Llano except in the hot mix areas. The hot mix areas are around the Courthouse Square, 800 Berry St., 100 W. Sandstone, 100 E. Sandstone, 800 Oatman and 100 E. Main St. The other area is the Elementary School bus route. This route will be on Oatman St. from Granite St. going 5 blocks south to College St. turning East on College St. going 2.5 blocks to the cemetery entrance road. Hot mix crews will begin at the school area the first week in July, milling the edges to prep this area for the 1.5’’ hot mix overlay. Areas with parking and cross walk stripes will be restriped as per the drawings.
